Serenity in Your Garden

By Stacey Roske

Walking through a pair of wrought iron gates into an antiques filled garden is like passing through time into an era of romance and leisure. Iced tea, parasols and an ease of life were the norm and are what we yearn for today.

You can help make this a reality for yourself by using antique furniture, statuary, urns or flower pots to give your garden, and your life, the serenity you deserve.

The oldest and sometimes most interesting garden antiques can be found in Europe. Thanks to the World Wide Web, access to these treasures is available to all. Now anyone can purchase vintage garden decorations including architectural structures, ornate benches, statuary, urns, and pots with the click of a mouse.

Acquiring a 200-year-old statue off the internet may seem far fetched to some. Thankfully those of us in that category (myself included) can still turn our gardens into enchanting places brimming with history. Estate Sales, Antique Shops, Outdoor Antique Shows and Architectural Salvage stores can be great sources for vintage and antique garden statuary and furniture.

Don't be afraid to experiment and keep your eyes open no matter the time of year. A bird bath at an estate sale in the middle of January will be significantly less than that same bird bath in the April.

Most importantly take time to enjoy the beautiful spring weather and enjoy the tranquility that comes from working in the garden.
